Margaret Scott
Artwork: 5 Times
Medium: Textile
Dimensions: 166 x 119cm

The series called ‘Five Times more’ refers to the Data on black women who are five time more likely to die from causes related to pregnancy than white women.
The series currently includes 6 large Nuno felted textiles and several aluminium prints.

London based, Olivia trained as an art historian with a BA and MA from the Courtauld Institute (2011), and now uses oil painting as a discipline to similarly explore our continuing relationship with art from the past; most specifically the classical antique, the root of western art history.
Taking cues from surviving artefacts, she considers the plastic properties of these fragments of marble or bronze against modern ideas of display. Her painterly style deliberately contrasts the tactile materials of the fragments with surface textures that evoke photography, television, and other archival means that have been used throughout time to record them.
